The Jewish community in Fairbanks was founded in 1904. This is significant because it is the same year as the opening of Stuyvesant High School, the start of the New York City subway system, and the invention of the ice cream cone.

Hey, Chani! You put some time into the Straphanger with me back in Stuy '81. That's gotta be an amazing story of how you chose to go where you are. Certainly more interesting than just another suburbanite with a mortgage. The closest I've been to the Great White North is on the Yukon railway tour out of Skagway last summer. Gezunta Heit!
